ABOUT US
The Friends of Los Alamos County Libraries (FLACL or Friends) was founded in 1978 as a non-profit, 501c3 corporation that supports the services and staff of the Los Alamos County Library System, including both Mesa Public Library and the White Rock Branch Library, and the Lora Belle Cole Library at the Los Alamos County Detention Center. The Friends’ Board has a contract with Los Alamos County to operate the Friends Bookstore and give the Bookstore profits to the libraries in a block grant that they may spend as they see fit. The Friends also works in partnership with Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation to award scholarships on an annual basis to high school seniors.
The Friends Bookstore opened in 1994 and is currently open seven days a week, 52 weeks a year and is closed only on the holidays that the library is closed. The Bookstore is staffed solely by volunteers.
